Durham County Council is currently embarking on an exciting new journey of transformation. We have recently launched a number of new projects which will help deliver excellent customer service and create a flexible, driven workforce. From the building of a new, modern HQ in the city centre, to innovative technological solutions and the redevelopment of Aykley Heads, Durham County Council is inspiring growth and progress. To ensure successful delivery of its ambitious programme, the Council requires quality governance advice to ensure the principles transparency, accountability and sustainability.
The Council is seeking to appoint to the post of Governance Solicitor within the Legal & Democratic Services. As well as advising on transformation projects, the role will involve working closely with the Head of Service to provide advice to Officers and Members on all aspects of public and administrative law, as well as information governance and RIPA. The successful candidate will also support the Council's Standards Committee on a wide range of ethical standards and conduct issues.
Candidates should be motivated individuals willing to challenge the status quo and have a passion for driving organisational change. They must be a qualified solicitor with a current practicing certificate, or a qualified barrister, with knowledge and experience of local government law and practice, particularly in relation to public and administrative law, the Constitution and the Members' Code of Conduct.
