Principal Solicitor - Melton Borough Council
Up to £44,687 (including additional increments for Deputy Monitoring Officer duties)

Following a review of the legal service, we are now looking to appoint a new Principal Solicitor to help drive forward the work of the newly formed Legal and Democratic Directorate and play a lead role in developing the Council's commercial and place shaping aspirations.
In this new role, you will develop the legal function as it changes from an external shared service to an in house service while supporting the council in its aspiration to modernise and improve decision making, creating a more dynamic and positive governance structure.

Supporting the newly appointed Director for Legal and Democratic Services in the leadership of a new legal team, you will take on the role of Deputy Monitoring Officer providing expert advice to Parish Councils, Officers and Councillors on a wide range of matters. With GDPR legislation impacting on day to day activities of a local authority you will be the main point of contact on issues and matters ensuring corporate compliance.
We are looking for a someone who takes a pragmatic and solution focused approach who can develop and lead a new team while providing an excellent quality legal service across the full range of local authority services.
Ideally you will have extensive local government experience and knowledge that will support our aspirations to modernise and become a more commercial council.
