"I am honoured to appointed as the Non-Executive Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion on the LLG Board. My role will involve supporting the board to build an effective EDI strategy and to provide healthy challenge and accountability. I was attracted to this role when I read about the action LLG's board were taking to embed EDI and to ensure diverse thinking.

I believe that LLG members have a crucial role in changing our communities to become more inclusive through diverse decision making. I'm keen to hear what members want and need with regards to equality, diversity and inclusion.

My passion, drive and activism for building inclusive communities and organisations started at a young age – whilst I was still in primary school. My first experience of local government was over 20 years ago whilst I was at University; I spent a year working at the Equalities unit of my local council, where I completed a research project on the local refugee communities. My career has since evolved across a range of professions and sectors. I recently left the NHS after 16 years. I wore many 'hats' in the NHS, including running clinical community services in south London. My lived experience of systemic discrimination pushed me to act. I founded and set up staff networks to support 7000 staff, as I understood the need for safe spaces and collective support. I ensured that EDI was embedded across the organisation from floor to board. I was able to voice the experiences of staff to hold the board to account, to support the transformation of process and to ensure our patients and local systems partners were part of the EDI work.

I now work as an Inclusion and Culture Consultant, supporting and advising a large range of organisations to move towards building a work environment where everyone can thrive and belong. I'm also the founder of a female executive mentoring programme, providing cross-sector mentoring for a diverse group of senior female leaders. I am working on projects to bring communities together post pandemic to bridge divisions."
