LLG Contributes to New Guidance for Taxi LicensingPublish date: 22/07/2020
The Department of Transport has this week (21st July 2020) published the long overdue Section 177 Guidance for Taxi Licensing, entitled ‘Statutory Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Standards’.
This is to be welcomed as it follows up on recommendations in the Casey and Jay Reports and provisions in the 2017 Policing and Crime Act. The concept of uniform standards to be adopted by all Licensing Authorities should ensure that standards are driven up throughout England and Wales and help to eliminate 'licence shopping' where applicants deliberately apply to Authorities with lower thresholds.
It is pleasing to note that significant parts of the Guidance are based on the work carried out by the Institute of Licensing in partnership with LLG, the LGA and NALEO.
